easy image transfer to metal tape
Here's a quick tutorial for a super easy image transfer to metal tape! It only takes minutes to do!

I'm using Ranger's Inkssentials Foil Tape which already has adhesive on the back. You'll also want a Mister filled with water and a laser photocopy - inkjet won't work so laser copy. Hint if you put a dab of water on your copy and ink runs. It's an ink jet! This kind won't work!

Cut out a small piece of Ranger's Inkssentials Foil Tape to fit your image size. Peel off the paper backing from the foil tape.

Place photocopy face down into sticky side of foil tape

  Burnish with a craft stick

Spray with water using Inkssentials Mister.

  Rub to remove the paper

Apply Claudine Hellmuth Studio Multi Medium in Gloss to remove remaining sticky. Use Gloss so the metal stays nice and shiny.

Finished transfer!
Enjoy!!

new heart (valve) for valentines day
There's a whole new meaning to hearts this Valentine's day for us! Tomorrow my Dad will be having open heart surgery to receive a bypass and a valve replacement to cure his Aortic Valve Stenosis.

me+dad

My dad has been through a lot in the last 18 months. Lung cancer treatment,  heart attacks, rhabdomyolysis and I am sure I am forgetting something else.  It was a lot!!

He's a tough guy, he's made it through all of that and beaten cancer once before. I know he'll make it through this surgery with flying colors.

Mom and I are concerned about his recovery once he is home from the hospital. We have heard that the pain can be intense because of the cracked sternum. If anyone has had this surgery or had loved ones who have had it, if you could shed any light on the recovery process, and any tips that the Dr's and nurses never tell you -- that would be wonderful. We have looked online for information and all the web sites and forums seem to cover is the in-hospital period and not when the patient is back at home.

Thanks for your good thoughts for my Dad tomorrow! We are all rooting for you Dad!!

Happy Valentine's day! Tell all your loved ones how much they mean to you - pets too ;)

UPDATE THURSDAY 2/16: Thank you so much for all your well wishes. My Dad made it through his surgery and he's now getting out of the ICU. All is looking well. Whew!

HSN day recap
Yesterday was my big day at HSN launching my new paper product line. What a whirlwind day full of nerves, stress and excitement. All of these kits have been nearly a year in the making and I have been working almost non stop: designing the product, creating samples, lots of meetings, many late nights and weekends lost to work. But the big day was finally here!

Thank you to everyone who was out there rooting for me and sending me messages on twitter and facebook. It helped so much!

Presenting on a shopping channel is not an easy job let me tell you. The hosts that are on there every day make it look effortless and that is part of their magic. The reality is  you have an ear piece with people telling you which of 4 cameras to look at, how much time is left in the segment etc. There are monitors right in front of you while you are on air showing you how well you are selling (I tried not to look at those!). You're talking to your host, trying to get in all the features of your product before the time is up, and all on live TV with only a 6 second delay between what you are saying and what the TV audience sees!

No stress at all right?

Somehow I managed to do it and I know next time it will be even easier because I won't feel like the new kid at school. I'll know where to go, how to set up my tables, where the storage room is, the all important bathroom, greenroom and all the little details that keep you up tossing and turning the night before your show date!

My first two segments I presented my Super Swell Scrapbook Kit and Sweet Treats Chipboard Kit with Shivan Sarna and then my last two segments I presented the Super Swell Scrapbook Kit again and then my Rub on Kit with Suzanne Runyan

It was great working with both hosts and seeing their different takes on the products and how they responded to it, the different things they pointed out etc. Being live on HSN is like being in a job interview. It's not until after you get off air and later in the day you start thinking of all the things you wished you had time to say or what you would have done differently. You get the one shot and it goes so fast it's over before you can blink!

I am really happy with how it went and it was such an exciting trip and event.  One of the best treats about the whole experience was the sense of camaraderie with the other presenters. I got to hang out with Beth Kingston from Xyron,  Andrew Hiller the owner of We R Memory Keepers, Donna Stork from 3 Birds, and my life saver friend Chasity Sivanick who showed me all the ropes.

We also met "real housewife" Jill Zarin, I didn't know who she was but I was all excited because she brought her little chihuahua with her. I asked if I could pet him/her and she said no he wasn't friendly. But later he was running around the halls (so tiny!!) and came right up to me and let give him a nice little cuddle, so maybe he made an exception for me!

Below are the clips from my segments. You can still get all these kits on HSN.com!

I'll be back on again March 6th with THREE new kits! Yes no rest for the weary. I'll be making more samples as soon as I get myself back to DC! There will be a crazy cute laser cut wood shape kit, a card making kit and a 3-d sticker kit too!

HSN training day
Yesterday was my training day at HSN. I was part of a small class with myself, a doggie car seat company, and a jewelry artist all led by the super friendly and generous Stephen Riordan. We learned all about presenting on HSN which is absolutely fascinating!

Then we all went down to one of the studios to practice in front of the camera and learn which cameras you are to look at what times. It was great to have a go at presenting one of my kits and also experience wearing the ear piece where they are talking to you in your ear while you are presenting. There is quite a lot going on all at once!

My first 3 kits are already available on the HSN.com web site here! I am SO EXCITED!! We created very limited quantities of these kits and when they are sold out we won't be reprinting them, so snap them up now!   If you don't want to wait until Thursday when I am presenting on air you can get them now. I'll be on Thursday at noon EST, 6pm EST and 7pm EST. They say "in the hour" so I might not be on right at noon on the dot but shortly after, same for the other time slots too! You can also watch live on HSN.com as well. These slots could change but I'll be updating down to the minute on twitter and facebook!

HSN Sneak Peek #3
My final kit that will launch Feb 9th on HSN is the Rub on-o-Rama kit!

Never having designed rubons before, I had a blast. I am now in love with rub ons. I want to put them on everything!

This kit has pages and pages of my illustrations as rub ons, that you can use on ribbon, fabric, paper, wood, glass and photos. There are also flocked vinyl stickers that the rub ons pair with perfectly and everything is packaged in a cute little reusable clipboard.

Here's a little peek of what you'll see me showing on HSN on February 9th, photos in the samples below are of my nieces Maiya and Madison - too cute!

All my kits are exclusive to HSN so you won't find them anywhere else --- and like the Scrapbook kit, and the Chipboard kit, this one is a limited edition with limited quantities. So when they are gone -- they are gone!

I'll be on HSN February 9th  at 12noon, 6pm and 7pm (all times EST) These slots could change but I'll be updating down to the minute on twitter and facebook and you'll be able to find my kits starting February 9th on HSN.com too!

HSN Sneak Peek #2
Another sneak peek! Today I am sharing with you a little peek of my Sweet Treats Chipboard Kit that will launch Feb 9th on HSN

This kit is filled to the brim with chipboard. My illustrations (and there are a ton of them, I know because I drew them all! ) are all beautifully printed and pre die cut for you. With adhesive backing too! What I love about these chipboard pieces are the edges are so smooth. You won't find any of those "perforation bumps" that you get on chipboard sometimes. No needing to file them off!

Here's a  little sample of what you'll see me showing on HSN on February 9th:
